June 2025: A few words from our Resident Pairs…..
CELEBRATING SUCCESS (Story by Hektor Giotopoulos Moore)
We started our season a little bit late last year with our first competition in October at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, Skate Canada International, where we placed 3rd and secured the first ever Grand Prix medal for Australia in any discipline. We had three other competitions planned after Skate Canada: the ISU Grand Prix of Finland, the Warsaw Cup Challenger, and the Golden Spin of Zagreb Challenger. After the Grand Prix Skate Canada, Anastasiia fell quite ill with COVID-19, meaning we had no other choice but to withdraw from our other competitions and let Anastasiia recover.
Later in our season, Anastasiia and I competed at the Four Continents Championships in Seoul, South Korea, where we didn’t have the best of skates in the free program and ended up in 6th place overall. We then went on to compete at the World Championships in Boston, which was also the Olympic Winter Games qualifying event. Anastasia and I were sitting in 8th place after a strong short program and ended up in 9th overall, securing Australia a spot at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games. We are so proud to be the first Australian pair team to qualify for a spot in the Olympics at a World Championship event.
Currently, Anastasiia and I are back in Montreal, Canada, training hard and getting ready for the coming season. Anastasiia and I are grateful to represent and have the support of an amazing club like SFSC. We can’t thank everyone at the SFSC enough (board members, volunteers, members). It is an honour.
