Canterbury Rink remains closed for repairs (see update below), but we again started the year with renewed optimism and vision for the future. Our thanks again to other Clubs and rinks for their support of both skaters and coaches during 2024, and assistance with the hosting of SFSC branded competitions. We extend our thanks to rinks which continue to be accommodating where possible.
Our Synchronized skating teams continue to experience difficulty securing suitable and affordable ice time for training. We commend those skaters (and their parents and coaches) for making the huge effort by being available for 4 am starts and skating late at night and into the wee small hours. Not to mention the travel (Central Coast, Newcastle & Interstate). With school and work commitments also needing to be met, this dedication to their chosen sport is second to none.
Again, SFSC’s focus for 2024 was the continued support of its members, and helping The Ice Skating Club of NSW Co-Operative Ltd (ISCNSW) where possible.
SFSC congratulates those members selected to compete at the Australian Figure Skating Championships which took place in Melbourne (early December 2024). All skaters are congratulated on their performances.

Just a quick update on the status of our Development Application submitted to Canterbury Bankstown Council in August. The DA is currently on public exhibition until 8 October 2024 and is accessible to view and comment via the link below.
You will be able to view the Architectural Plans and other documentation as submitted, and most importantly under the “Submission” heading you will be able to make a submission/comment on the DA that will be taken into consideration by the Planning team through the review and approval process. We would of course be grateful for any supportive submissions.
We have sent out an Expression of Interest to a number of suitable construction firms based on these plans, and will evaluate the responses with our Project Manager as they come in over the coming weeks.
Once Council provides formal questions/responses to our DA we will be in a position to issue the construction tender to the shortlisted firms – the timing of this process remains fluid and we are now only 3 months from Christmas (!!!) so our current estimate is that we will hand over the site to the successful bidder around March/April. As we receive further information we will continue to share it with you.
The Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink Roof and Amenities Upgrade project is proudly funded by the NSW Government.
